Pictures, pictures and more pictures

Ok this morning was a banner day; Genevieve must have read my blog post last night complaining that she never opens her eyes. Today she was all awake and perky and cute.

First, here are two pictures of Alex at breakfast time. In the last few weeks he's learned how to climb into his high chair, and even fasten his own seat belt.

Now here is Genevieve waking up this morning...

This is a hand.

This is a happy daddy.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP!!!

OK daddy that's more than enough pictures....

All's Well

Nothing new to report here. Genevieve continues to be a sleepapotamus. She sleeps and eats, eats and sleeps. She makes cute little squeaks and squeals sometimes. She lets her Daddy pet her preposterously soft hair. She squeezes her eyes shut in bright light even on the rare occasions when she's wide awake, so one must wait for evening to gaze into her eyes. She is fond of holding one or both arms above her head in an inspiring pose, as if to shout out, "Yes! I am a baby girl! Hooray for me!"

I can't wait to get to know her better.

Meanwhile all of my waking moments this week and last have been filled with catching up at work, and working on getting the rental property ready for the new school year's lessees. Painting, cleaning, replacing things, re-landscaping, etc....

Auntoh Ali is planning to come out on Wedneaday for a visit. Alex is jazzed.

All of Genevieve's Clothes

This photo shows Genevieve's entire wardrobe today. Onesies on the left, everything else on the right.

I want to save this photo and show it to her when she is 16.

(note to concerned grandparents: we do have more clothes for her than just this. This just shows the stuff that fits and is already in circulation)

Alex mows the lawn

Last night our neighbor Brian was mowing lawns on his big riding mower. He stopped when he saw me and Alex watching, and motioned for Alex to come over.

Alex (and Brian) had a ball.

Home again

We checked out of the hospital around 2pm today and took Genevieve home. It is really nice to be back at home.

I installed the window AC upstairs in our bedroom -- one of the many chores we expected to get done in the next 2 weeks before Genevieve came. Ah well.

Ryanne dropped Alex off this evening around 6:30. We had ravioli for dinner together - our very first dinner together as a family of four. Wow! Genevieve didn't have any, but sat at the table with Mommy.

Dana had a beer! Yay.

After dinner our neighbor across the street, Brian, was out mowing everybody's yard with his big riding lawnmower. He gave Alex a ride - another first! We stopped and talked with him, and Mike and Adriana, our other across-the-street neighbors. Dana brought over Genevieve and Adriana held her for a few minutes. It was Genevieve's first time outside, and first time being held by anyone except us or the nurses. She was happy.

We managed to give Alex his bath, brush his teeth, and read a story. He was pretty wiggly when we put him to bed, but he finally settled down. He wanted to make sure that we knew that he wants a "tire truck". Gotta remember that.

I can see that taking care of two children is going to be tough. As Dana's brother Richard said on the phone today, "it is not a linear function." We'll probably have some tough days ahead, but it is really peaceful and cozy here tonight.

New Daddy Paradise

Here is my new "crib" tonight at the hospital.

The sofa bed was intolerable, even after 26 hours awake. But with the aid of our camping air mattress and the sofa mattress, I now have a bed fit for a king on my last night here.

Today has been pleasant. We took a few naps. Genevieve has slept almost the whole day, pausing only long enough for some pretty serious cluster feeding. She's had 2 poopy diapers already, so the plumbing is all hooked up and running.

She has cute little hiccups and sneezes.

Alex and Ryanne stopped by after lunch to meet Genevieve. Alex was mildly interested in his new baby sister. It turns out Daddy wasn't just joking around about the little baby living in Mommy's tummy! But he was far more interested in the new monster truck toy that Ryanne and Lucas gave him. He also got a big kick out of riding up and down on mommy's electric hospital bed. Alex is staying with Ryanne and Lucas while we are at the hospital. Plus a brief visit with our friends Kim and Tom after Genevieve pulled the drain plug a little early on Tues morning (thanks guys!)

Now wouldn't you know it? In the time it's taken me to hammer out this blog post on my iPhone, somebody has come and taken over my new bed!

Hey! Get back to your super comfy hospital bed!

More waiting

Nothing new this evening. Doctor thinks it might not be until after midnight. We are bored. Need movies. Dan had dinner but Dana has to wait until the baby comes.

Not too uncomfortable yet.

Still waiting

No news here. The doc wants to start pitocin in a few minutes, so that should start things up pretty fast.

Slowpoke

We had a little nap. No sign of baby yet. We are resuming our walking tour of the second floor.

Waiting

We are waiting patiently. Bought donuts for the nurses on day shift. Dana's nurse is Faith. Earlier this morning we had Kim.

Dana & Faith at 8am

Splash

Oh boy here we go. It looks like our little girl might be a morning person. No contractions yet, but the bags are in the car.

Our Little Bowl of Jelly

Yesterday we visited the OB for the final routine ultrasound. The little girl is pointed in the right direction, and all systems are 'go'.

As with Alex, she is stubbornly not giving us a very good picture. But it won't be long now until we get to see her in person.
