Wrapping Up July

Dana sat for the Bar exam last Tuesday and Wednesday. Leading up to that, we had several weeks of intense study, during which I spent a lot of quality time with both kids. It is rewarding to find that I can handle both kids at once, on my own, pretty easily. We like to go shopping, to the park, the bounce house, for a scenic drive, or lots of other activities.

Last weekend we went to a party thrown by my friend and colleague Mary and her boyfriend John. It was very nice, especially when Mary volunteered to watch Genevieve and Alex while I ate a hamburger!

Last Sunday we had a backyard BBQ with our neighbors Dave and Marissa, and their kids Maebe (3) and Ripp (1). Alex and Maebe played together all evening in the backyard!

After the big exam was all over, we left the kids with Ryanne and Lucas, and Dana and I headed to Estes Park on Friday evening for one night alone together. We stayed in a huge condo with a hot tub overlooking the Estes Valley, and had dinner at the steakhouse above the Wheel Bar -- one of the first places we ate out on our first or second date in Colorado, back in '02.

Alas, over dinner we got a call from Ryanne to let us know that Alex had caught a stomach bug and was not feeling good at all. He had a fever and an upset tummy. We still enjoyed ourselves, but worried about our little boy all night. Naturally by the time we picked him up today, he was starting to feel better, and by this evening he'd had a full dinner AND a cookie. Huge thanks to Ryanne and Lucas for the hazardous work.

Happy Birthday Little Girl

Today is Genevieve's first birthday. We had a little piece of cheesecake for breakfast, with some of her favorite fruits.

It's been a really busy year, to say the least. It hardly feels like 12 months have gone by.

We will probably celebrate with a real party after the bar exam is done.

Out & About

Today Dana had a Bar prep class. The kids and I headed out for the day to do some shopping for camping gear.

Naturally we had to stop for ice cream.

I was sad to find that REI no longer carries our "wedding pattern" -- dark green enamelite.

Oh well, we found some other nice colors at Jax.

I found a case of Moosehead beer at the liquor store! I bought it to celebrate Ali and Eric's new house on Moosehead Way!! We spent the week before the 4th of July helping them move. (although I hasten to add that dumping your 1 and 3 year olds off and then spending the day working remotely on the computer and taking conference calls hardly counts as "helping"...)

Genevieve is not walking yet but she continues to practice. She is pretty much eating everything now.
